- WallyPark Rebrands New Structure as Joe's Airport Parking
Joe must be a pretty high-tech guy. Or at least his new parking facility is!
Los Angeles-based L&R Group of Companies, the company behind WallyPark, has made a major capital investment in a variety of improvements, including new lighting, high-tech equipment and aesthetics as it converts the former All-Star Parking operation and rebrands it as Joe’s Airport Parking.
L&R is installing a state-of-the-art revenue control system with a frequent parker program that will simplify the parking process while rewarding its valued customers. In addition, the facility will offer covered and uncovered self-parking and a premium valet service with a host of car care services ranging from washing, waxing, detailing, window tinting, windshield repairs, paintless dent removal and minor bumper scuff repairs.
Charles Bassett of L&R said the move reinforces the Joe’s brand that has been hugely successful in Downtown Los Angeles, where it operates more than 100 parking lots.
“Joe’s has been a staple in Downtown L.A. for more than 60 years,” he said. “It is a brand people know and respect and one that already has a major presence in Los Angeles. This will be the first venture with Joe’s into the off-airport parking market.”
Above all, Bassett said the goal is to create a parking experience at Joe’s akin to the air travel experience on Virgin America airlines or the hotel experience at the W Hotel.
“We are designing our Joe’s Airport Parking brand to attract air travelers that value and appreciate a cool, trendy and fun environment,” he said.
WallyPark already has a solid track record of successful off-airport parking operations and now has 16 facilities at 11 major airports from coast to coast. Last year, WallyPark launched the WallyPark Express brand, which offers no frills, easy-in, easy-out parking.
The new facility incorporates the former All Star lot at 6141 Century and the adjacent parking garage at 6151 Century to provide space for more than 1,500 vehicles.
Like the existing WallyPark facilities, the new Joe’s Airport Parking facility will feature a variety of complimentary benefits for its customers including free USA Today newspaper, free bottled water and coffee, free wireless internet access, free 24/7 shuttle service, free luggage assistance to and from your vehicle and the signature WallyGuard™ door ding protective pads.

- LAWA Cleans Up 5400 Block of Century Boulevard
In early February, Los Angeles World Airports stepped up it’s clean-up efforts along the north side of the 5400 block of Century Boulevard.
The area, which had become an eyesore filled with overgrown brush and littered with trash, now looks beautiful thanks to the work done by the airport’s maintenance team. Broken sprinklers were replaced and shrubs were cut back appropriately.
“LAWA was maybe unaware that it was the property owner in that area” said Laurie Hughes, executive director of Gateway to L.A. “But once we asked them to take a look, they were incredibly responsive.”
Hughes said the clean-up effort underscores the close working relationship Gateway has developed with the airport and the way in which the two organizations work together to achieve common goals such as beautifying the area near the nation’s third-busiest airport.
“Some areas around other airports look rundown, but that’s not something we accept here at Gateway,” she said. “We continue to work closely with the airport to develop a walkable and appealing environment to all of our visitors whether they stay in our hotels, work in our office buildings or come down Century Boulevard on their way to or from the airport.”
Pictured here are before (top) and after photos of the area.

- Peter Kolla Lands First GM Post
After a career in food and beverage in which he oversaw the doubling of the food and beverage sales at the Sheraton Delfina and the opening of four new restaurants in 18 months as associate director of hospitality at USC, Peter Kolla is now the General Manager of the Four Points by Sheraton. “It’s very exciting,” said Kolla, who embarked on his first GM job in December when the hotel came under the ownership of Crescent Hotels & Resorts. He previously served as food an beverage director at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, so he is very familiar with the Gateway area. “There is such a buzz in this area,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to show that an airport hotel doesn’t have to be what people think an airport hotel is. It’s great to see how the very talented people in all divisions of the hotel work to provide our guests with the best possible experience.”
