METRO PANEL SELECTS ARTIST SHERIN GUIRGUIS TO CREATE ARTWORK FOR THE AVIATION/CENTURY STATION

A panel of art experts commissioned by Metro has selected artist Sherin Guirguis to create the artwork for the Aviation/Century Station, which is currently being developed in the Gateway area.

Guirguis, who was selected from among more than 300 artists who showed an interest in the project, will be responsible for artwork at a variety of locations, throughout the station, including pavilion glass panel walls at the entry, tile and mosaic murals on the concourse, porcelain enamel steel panels on the platform, metal fencing on the station’s exterior and walls and banners that will surround the station during construction.

NEW TAXICAB HOLDING LOT SCHEDULED TO BE OPERATIONAL BY OCTOBER

During the June 18 Taxicab Commission meeting, Los Angeles City Taxi Administrator Tom Drischler presented an update on the LAX taxi holding lot, which promises to make things easier for both taxicab operators at the communities near the airport. 

Construction of the new lot has begun and is expected to be operational by October, 2015. The new lot will accommodate 120 taxicabs, a 65% increase from capacity of the current lot, and will be capable of dispatching 800 taxis per hour.

LAPD, LOCAL CHAPLAINS TEAM UP TO HELP AREA HOMELESS

Homelessness is an issue that has plagued much of Los Angeles for years, but recently, the Gateway area has found some angels willing to make a real dent in the problem.
 

Pastors Steve and Regina Weller from Venice Foursquare Church have worked closely with the area’s LAPD Senior Lead Officers Pete Abskharon and Ruben Garcia to connect with the area’s homeless and get them the help they need.
