Carl Moyer Grant Means Ocean Express Trolleys Will Run Cleaner
Gateway to L.A. Ocean Express trolleys will be running cleaner thanks to a nearly $45,000 grant from the Carl Moyer Memorial Air Quality Standards Attainment Program. The Carl Moyer Program provides monetary grants to help businesses and public agencies clean up their heavy-duty diesel engines more than required by air pollution regulations. The grant will allow each bus to be fitted with a Cleaire Longview exhaust filtering device. The Longview integrates a NOx reduction catalyst and catalyzed wall-flow silicon carbide diesel particulate filter. This provides simultaneous reduction of NOx, particulate matter, hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO). This Level 3 device reduces particulate matter by a minimum of 85%, and NOx by a minimum of 25%. The Longview purifier uses a catalytic process to simultaneously convert all four major criteria pollutants from diesel engines: particulate matter (PM), oxide os nitrogen (NOx), carbon mondoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (Hc) to water and benign gases nitrogen (N2) and oxygen (Co2) (see illustration).
