Gateway Goes Even Greener as Hotels Get Green Seal Certified
Congratulations to General Manager Michael Payton at the Crowne Plaza Los Angeles International Hotel, the latest Gateway-are hotel to earn Green Seal approval for their environmental efforts.
Hotels in the business district were provided the opportunity to participate in the Gateway to a Greener L.A. Hotel Green Seal Program. The program offered mentorship and assistance with the Green Seal certification process. Training sessions and materials were also included for the hotel staff, providing employees an understanding of the meaning and value of green business certification and teaching them how to perform their daily work activities in a greener way.
To date four hotels have achieved Green Seal certification: Radisson Los Angeles Airport Hotel, Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Westin Los Angeles Airport, and Crowne Plaza Los Angeles International Airport Hotel. These four hotels represent 38% of total hotel room inventory in the district. Two other hotels, Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel and Renaissance Montura, are currently engaged in the certification process.
Once these hotels are fully certified, over 62% of the hotel room inventory in the Gateway to L.A. business district will be Green Seal certified.
“‘Going green’ has become a cliché in many places, but at Gateway to L.A. we take it seriously,” said Laurie Hughes, Executive Director of Gateway to L.A. “As the largest concentration of hotels in Los Angeles, we can make a real difference and create a meaningful and positive impact on the environment. Not only that, our efforts are good for business. Increasingly, guests are cognizant of what hotels are doing to protect the environment, and they are making their lodging choices accordingly.”
